DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: This position is located in the Cereal Disease Management Research Unit in St. Paul, Minnesota, which is located on the St. Paul campus of the University of Minnesota. The incumbent will utilize Puccinia graminis genomic resources to develop rapid molecular diagnostic assays for “Ug99” and related exotic races. Current methods for monitoring rain samples will be modified to monitor aerial movement of wheat rust fungal spores in the U.S. to better understand the epidemiology of these important plant pathogens. The incumbent will be part of a multi-institutional team.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Ph.D. in plant pathology, microbiology, molecular biology or a related field is required. Knowledge of DNA sequence analysis and PCR based methods of detection, and excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively are required.
