DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The position is located in the Plant Mycotoxin Research Unit, Western Regional Research Center at Albany, California. The incumbent will develop, optimize, and implement a large-scale volatile collection system capable of collecting ambient volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from California agriculture orchards. The collection system will run as an independent collection system, absent of extended electrical cords or pressure lines, and be able to run continuously for several days and/or weeks. The incumbent will be responsible for the collection, extraction, identification, and bioassay of agriculturally important VOCs, and will assist in the oversight of part-time technicians.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Recent Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Ecology, or a closely related field is required.  Knowledge of gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy, high-pressure liquid chromatography, electroantennogram, solid-phase microextraction or other volatile absorbent media, and organic syntheses are desired. Demonstrated supervisory skills of students and/or technicians are required.
