POSITION:

Research Entomologist

LOCATION:

Beltsville, Maryland

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The position is located in the Plant Sciences Institute, Bee Research Laboratory, Beltsville, Maryland.  The project involves the genetic analysis of pests and pathogens associated with honey bees.  The incumbent assists in microbial genome projects for major pests of honey bees by determining viable candidates for virulence and assessing the abilities of honey bees to fend off disease.  The incumbent will also develop relational databases for describing microbial genomes and presenting genome data to the public, and use insights from this analysis to develop and test hypotheses related to honey bee pathology. 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Recent Ph.D. in Entomology, Genetics or a related discipline.  Knowledge of genetic techniques to include DNA and RNA sequencing, gene-expression analysis and computational support of genetic projects is desired. Background in bioinformatics and genome annotation is essential.
