DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The position is located in the Crop Genetics and Breeding Research Unit, Tifton, Georgia. The incumbent will assess management and harvest systems of perennial and annual grass crops for use as biomass feedstocks for the Southeast. These crops include napiergrass, energy cane and sorghum. This will include the testing of winter cover crops and their effects on yield, conversion efficiency, carbon accretion, nitrogen input requirements and plant water stress. The incumbent will also initiate assessment and crossing for improved yield and disease resistance of sorghum germplasm.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Recent Ph.D. in Plant Physiology, Agronomy, Plant Breeding or a closely related field is required. Knowledge of forage/biomass agronomy; and experience in plant breeding desirable.
