DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The position is located in the U. S. Horticultural Research Laboratory, Fort Pierce, Florida. The incumbent will plan, organize, and conduct experiments designed to overcome bottlenecks in transformation of citrus and implementation of HLB-resistant transgenics. Experiments will be conducted in vitro, greenhouses, or the field to determine the resistance of citrus selections to HLB and other diseases; the nature, physiology, and control of transformation and regeneration of shoots in vitro; and the best methods to identify and characterize disease resistance.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Recent Ph.D. in Plant Pathology, Plant Physiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a closely related field is required. Knowledge of tissue culture parameters, plant genotype, and plant physiological status; and experience in Plant Transformation is desirable.
