POSITION: Research Hydrologist/Research Physical Scientist

LOCATION: Maricopa, AZ

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The incumbent will work collaboratively with project scientists to collect, merge and process satellite thermal infrared data to hourly samples at regional scales.  Assimilation tests of the resulting data sets will be performed using an established land hydrological model in collaboration with other ARS and NASA/Goddard scientists.  Research will focus upon practical integration of ASTER, MODIS and GOES thermal and visible/near infrared data at 1-4 km resolutions.  The incumbent will assess the benefits of using these radiometric surface temperatures in a land surface scheme.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Ph.D in Hydrology, Meteorology or closely related field is required.  The person selected should have knowledge of land surface hydrology, data assimilation and thermal infrared remote sensing.   Knowledge of mathematics and statistical techniques used to analyze model results is required.  Programming skills in C, Fortran or IDL are highly desired.
